Solitary O’Brien strike enough for Gleneely

In the opening minutes the home side’s Shaun Doherty saw.good effort well saved by Mulhern in the visitors goal before a defensive slip allowed the visitors Corey O’Brien a clear sight of goal but he failed to hit the target.Greencastle replied with Shaun Cavanagh heading an Ian Cavanagh cross over the bar. Greencastle had the final chance of the half when Matthew Harrison’s low effort was again well saved by Mulhern. On the resumption Gleneely took the lead on 56 minutes when Ciaran McDonald failed to collect a through ball and O’Brien pounced to drill the loose ball home.Greencastle pushed forward but they failed to break down a well organized Gleneely defence with Kevin Doherty and Danny McLaughlin in commanding form. There were few chances in the remaining part of the game with Gleneely content to absorb the home side s pressure and try and hit them on the break.
McGuinness the hero in shootout
Moville Res 3-3 Dunree United ( Moville win 4-3 on pens)
In a very hard fought game this was full of action and took penalties to decide this cup contest. Played in perfect conditions Dunree opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Liam Baldrick fed Damien Doherty and he sidestepped a defender and slid the ball low past the advancing Sean McGuinness. Moville replied with Brendan Doherty spreading the ball to Eunan McDaid whose cross was swept just wide by Conor Lafferty. They got back on terms when Doherty played the ball to Lafferty between the defenders and slide the ball past Johnathan Noone from sixteen yards.On the half hour Moville took the lead after Kevin McDermott played a long ball forward for Lafferty to nip in between keeper and defender and fire the ball home. Dunree started the second period well with Damien Doherty and Brendan McDaid spurning half chances. They leveled on 53 minutes after substitute Ryan Bradley pounced on a loose ball to drive the ball low to the corner from the edge of the area.There was little in the way of clear chances but Dunree forced a number of corners which McGuinness dealt well. Dunree took the lead when Kevin Murphy got onto a through ball and fire past McGuinness from fourteen yards. The home side rallied and got back on terms on 82 minutes when McDaid’s cross was half cleared by Noone but McDermott reacted quickest to slam the ball home. In extra time both keepers made good saves with Noone denying McDermott to knock the ball around the post. At the other end Philip McGuinness crossed for Derek Murphy but keeper McGuinness brilliantly turned the ball round the post. In the penalty shootout McDermott sealed the win when he fired the spot kick home with McGuinness saving two kicks as well.
Barr ‘s men ease past Cockhill

Kevin Barr’s side progressed to the next round with this victory over premier rivals Cockhill played in beautiful conditions. Cockhill started well but failed to trouble the home goal in the opening quarter. On 17 minutes Aileach broke and took the lead with Graham Brown advancing on the right and crossing for Gerard Arbuckle to slot home past Liam Lynch at the back post. Midway through the half the visitors Brian King saw a twenty five yards effort tipped over the bar by Jamie McGowan. On 42 minutes Conor Gallagher then saw his well hit effort tipped over the bar by Lynch at full stretch. Cockhill replied on the stroke of half time when Gary Breslin fired inches wide from the edge of the area. In the second period Cockhill began well with Chris Hegarty saw his effort kicked off the line by Mark McLaughlin on 51 minutes. The home side responded with Liam Burke firing straight at Lunch from twelve yards. Aileach increased their lead on 72 minutes when susbstitute Shane Kerrigan cut in from the right and fired a superb low shot to the bottom corner from the edge of the area. Cockhill pushed forward and were almost caught out but Lynch saved superbly from Burke as the home side advanced.
Doherty double earns local rights
Clonmany Res 2-1 Rasheney FC ( AET)
Played in good conditions this local derby proved to be a very tight affair with the opening chance fell to Desie Doherty who ran onto Aiden Doherty’s pass and from an acute angle fired just past the far post.Rasheney came more into the game with Alan Friel unlucky not to get his head to John Doherty’s cross from the left before the same player ran onto a through ball but he blasted over from ten yards as Paul McGettigan advanced.Rasheney dominated the second period with Clonmany depending on counter attacks and few chances created.Rasheney had the best two chances when Damien Friel hooked over from twelve yards on 64 minutes and Brian Doherty slipping as he shot ten minutes later allowing McGettigan to gather.In extra time Clonmany took the lead when Aiden Doherty fired high to the roof of the net from eight yards after Daniel McLaughlin crossed. Rasheney equalized immediately when Emyln Doherty fired a superb shot to the top corner from twenty yards. At the end of the first period Clonmany restored their lead when Aiden Doherty turned well in the area and fired low past Colin Doherty in the Rasheney goal. Clonmany defended desperately for the second period and hung on to advance to the next round.
Point come from behind for hard earned win
Dunree Res 1-3 QPS Res
In a hard fought game the visitors settled the better with Shaun Harkin and Dean Hegarty prominent.Good defending by David Rudden and Martin Lynch kept them at bay in the early stages.Against the run of play Dunree opened the scoring when Frank Kelly’s free was headed down by Malcolm McGee to Launch who fired low past keeper Brian Lynch from close range on 28 minutes. The point ended the first half strongly but remained behind at the break. They spurned a great chance to get back on terms when Harkin was upended on 55 minutes but Paul Grant’s poor kick was well saved by Roger McGilloway. When Harkin was again upended in the area minutes later this time Paul Hegarty hammered the ball low past McGilloway to equalize. The point took the lead when Cathal McColgan slotted the ball low to the net from close range after Grant’s corner fell to him six yards out.The visitors added a third minutes before the end when Dean Hegarty fired a superb low effort past McGilloway from twenty yards.
Coyle’s side win local derby
Glengad Res 0-1 Carn FC
This was a hard fought affair with the visitors starting well when Liam Doherty fired straight at Martin Kelly in the home goal. The home side responded with Liam Nelson feeding Daniel McDaid but he fired wide from a good position.Midway through the half Carn’s Darren Loftus played a long ball to Doherty but he headed over from the penalty spot. Glengad had a good chance on the half hour but McDaid fired straight at Declan O’Donnell from ten yards. Carn broke the deadlock on 44 minutes when Loftus advanced on the right and crossed for Doherty to drill a low shot to the bottom corner from the edge of the area.In the second period the home side started well with Paul McDermott ‘s free finding the unmarked Nelson but he headed wide from six yards.Carn were dangerous on the break with Doherty releasing Loftus but he fired wide when in a one on one situation. The home side’s best chance arrived on 72 minutes when McDermott squared to McDaid whose poked effort was blocked by the legs of O’Donnell. The home side pushed hard but the visitors defence with Gerard McEleney and Brendan Tabb prominent stood firm.
Greencastle pay the price for missed chances

In another shock result Illies Reserves came from behind to defeat Greencastle but the home side have only themselves to blame as they spurned numerous chances to put the game beyond reach. They dominated most of the game and took the lead on 19 minutes after good interplay between Michael Barr and Liam Kelly released Paddy Keys who crossed for Ryan McClenaghan to head home at the back post.McClenaghan then headed over a Liam Kelly cross before Barr, Keys and McClenaghan all spurned good chances. Illies made them pay minutes before the interval when a long free from Dominic Doherty caught the home defence out allowing Gerard McDaid to head past Patsy Barr from close range. Greencastle upped the tempo on the restart with Sean McQuillan having a fierce drive turned away by Graeme Doherty who then excelled to tip Keys effort away.Keys then fed McClenaghan but with the goal at his mercy he fired wide before Barr’s cross found Jack Keys and he volleyed over the top from fifteen yards. In extra time the home side continued to create and spurn chances.McClenaghan, Keys and Gavin Doherty all had effort which Doherty in the visitors goal was equal to.Paddy Keys then released Stephen Bonner but his effort was hacked off the line by Dominic Doherty. Illies made them pay with minutes of the second period remaining when a long ball sent Glen Callaghan away and his perfect pass was swept home by paddy McCarron. Greencastle still had one final chance to force a shootout but in a scramble Bonner somehow headed wide from point blank range.
Holders depart in quarter finals
Cockhill Celtic Yths 2-0 Carrowmena FC
Cockhill caused a big upset when they dumped the defending champions from the competition and the opening phases were a tight midfield battle. On 21 Minutes Seamus Gill had the first effort but failed to trouble Michael Noone in the visitors goal before the same player fired wide again. James O’Donnell then had a free kick rebound off the wall but Martin Donagheys rebound was straight at Noone. On the restart Carrowmena had a great chance but Brian Kone’s effort was well tipped over by Leo McColgan in the home goal. Cockhill broke the deadlock on the hour after O’Donnell’s free from the right was headed to the roof of the net by Gill from eight yards. They added to their lead ten minutes later after good work by Kieran McLaughlin and Martin Bradley who released Aiden Porter to drive low and hard to the bottom right hand corner. Carrowmena pressed hard with shots from Brian Kone,David Heuston and Dermot Harkin all brilliantly saved by McColgan. Cockhill were always dangerous on the break and Cockhill advanced to the next round.
