In a surprise result the home side started well and opened the scoring on 15 minutes after Stephen McGuinness crossed for Stephen O’Donnell to slot home from fifteen yards.They went close again shortly after when McGuinness found himself in a good position but his effort rebounded off the post.The visitors got back on terms on 39 minutes when following a defensive error Shane Diver ran clear to shoot low past Kieran McDermott.When the home defence failed to clear a long ball Diver capitalized again to round McDermott and slot home.The visitors increased their advantage just after the break when following a corner Chriostopher McElhinney poked the ball home.Just after the hour the home side reduced the deficit when Simon McLaughlin fed O’Donnell and he kept his composure to drill low to the bottom corner.  Within minutes however Diver had completed his hat trick after he had been upended to restore their two goal lead.Aileach pressed and were rewarded when Dermot McGlynn was upended and O’Donnell converted to reduce the deficit to the minimum.The home side pushed hard with McGuinness hitting the post and bar but it was not enough.

These close rivals played out an entertaining two all draw with the visitors twice ahead only for the point to hit back and gain a share of the spoils.In a bright opening the visitors James Curran crossed for Sean Curran but he failed to hit the target when well placed.Dwain Robb then set up Paul Hegarty for the point but he fired a good effort just wide.Redcastle broke the deadlock on 39 minutes after Curran crossed for                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Brendan Murphy to head past Brian Lynch from four yards.The point replied with Adam Harkin firing wide when well placed before Hugo Curran heading wide from point blank range after Hegarty had set him up.They got back on terms on 51 minutes when Mark Wallace’s throw in found Fergal Buchanan who turned and fire low past Michael McCole from the edge of the area.Redcastle regained the lead on 75 minutes when Brian Farren’s free into the area found Murphy who was denied by a fine save from Lynch and when Toner’s follow up was blocked the ball spun across for Murphy to slot home from close range.The point hit back five minutes later when substitute Mark Duffy collected a Hegarty pass to sidestep a defender and see his cross cum shot fly in off the underside of the bar.The visitors came closest to claiming three points on 88 minutes when Seamus Farren played a free kick square to Murphy but his shot on the run was superbly palmed away at full stretch by Lynch.    

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Greencastle Res        2-3       QPS Res

This top of the table clash saw the visitors record three points and  they have one foot in the  semi finals but their victory was marred by a foot injury to young striker Dean Hegarty.Greencastle began well and on 5 minutes JP o’Doherty’s cross was headed just wide by Seamus Doherty.The point replied with Sean Harkin having an effort saved by Patsy Barr.The visitors took the lead on 12 minutes when Fergal Meenan controlled a ball over the top on his chest before turning and firing low past Barr from the edge of the area.Meenan then crossed from the right but Paul Hegarty fired just wide.The home side ralied and levelled on 21 minutes after Mark Kearney fired low o the bottom corner from fourteen yards.They went close again before the interval when Sean Downey fed James McColgan but he failed to hit the target.The point got off to a dream start to the second period after Paul Hegarty converted a penalty awarded for handball which saw O’Doherty redcarded on 47 minutes.The home side responded with Kearney’s free headed just wide by Doherty.The visitors increased their advantage when Adam Harkin beat the offside trap and raced clear to slot home.The home side responed well and Downey had an effort just wide before on 82 minutes Kearney’s cross was flicked on by Doherty for Michael Barr to coolly convert at the back post.But despite Greencastle pressure the visitors defence held firm.

The home side got  off to the better start and when Kevin Doherty fed John Doherty the diminutive striker fired just over.            Minutes later in the best chance they had Shane Diver raced clear of the Redcastle defence but fired over the top.Midway through the half Redcastle opened the scoring when James Curran converted a penalty awarded for handball after his initial effort came off the post.The game developed in to a midfield battle for long period and Redcastrle had to wait until the 70 minutes to increase their lead when Curran’s corner found Seamus Farren and he headed to the roof of the net.They completed the scoring when Kevin Toner’s cross found Stephen Grant and he slotted home from close range.

Aileach Res                1-3       QPS    

The visitors began the better with Dean Hegarty causing the home side trouble. But Aileach had the first chance when Martin Lynch blazed over when in the clear from ten yards.The point opened the scoring on 29 minutes when Hugo Curran headed home from close range past Sean McKay.There were very few chances before the break and the point made it two nil when Paul Hegarty crossed from the right on the hour for Adam Harkin to glance a header home from six yards.Aileach got one back on 80 minutes after Stephen O’Donnells free kick deflected off the wall to Mark Mclaughlin whose first touch as substiutute was to hammer to the top corner from twenty five yards.But immediately Aileach gave away a penalty when Hegarty was fouled and Paul Hegarty sent McKay the wrong way from the spot.           Aileach had a late chance from a corner but O’Donnells header was saved by Brian Lynch.        

Redcastle Res                        5-2       Greencastle Res       

The home side got off to a dream  start in the 2 minutes when Brendan Murphy collected a quick throw and beat his man to fire low past Patsy Barr from twelve yards.They doubled their lead ten minutes later when Seamus Farren released Liam Toner and he rounded Barr to slot home.Greencastle tried to reply and Seamus Doherty unleashed a fine shot from thirty yards which Michael McCole fingertipped round the post.On the stroke of half time Redcastle made it three when Murphy fed Farren and he fired to the top corner from twenty yards.They increased their lead on 55 minutes after Kevin Toner put Damien Coyle clear and he slotted low past Barr.The visitors reduced the deficit on 71 minutes after Doherty crossed for Mike Price to head home from fifteen yards.They pulled another back on 80 minutes when Kevin Mclaughlin waltzed round three men and slotted low past McCole for a fine individual effort.But Redcastle had the final say when James Toner played a one two with Farren before firing past Barr from ten yards.
